Bamboo Pipe Care Instructions
Please smoke responsibly and in accordance with all
applicable
laws.
Bamboo pipes have a lifespan. How you care for yours
will help
determine how long it will last. Please follow these guidelines to
prolong the life of your pipe and continue to smoke out of it for years
to come.
Bowl and Down Stem
Each down stem is hand crafted to suit the pipe.
Be gentle inserting and removing the bowl to avoid
splitting
the bamboo.
Use the carb instead of pulling the bowl out.
Minor leaks can be eliminated by inhaling gently. Don’t
force
the bowl into place.
If the down stem starts to leak, gently heat the beeswax
around the base of the stem.
Avoid overheating the pipe with massive smoke sessions.
Water
Bamboo splits and cracks in response to absorbing water
or
drying out. Our bamboo has been cured and heat treated to ensure
minimal moisture content to reduce the chance of splitting. It has an
all-natural mineral oil finish on the outside to repel water and
protect the wood.
Pipes designed to be used dry should not come in contact
with
water at all.
Do not leave water sitting inside when not in use.
Wipe the outside dry when it gets wet.
Rinse thoroughly with cool water after each use to avoid
letting resin build up.
Avoid hot or very cold water.
Storage and Handling
Store in a cool dry location
Avoid extreme temperatures. Cold makes the wax brittle,
hot
makes it soft.
Avoid touching the wax mouth piece.
Cleaning
Dry pipes should be mechanically cleared with a soft
poker. Do
not get wet or use alcohol.
Water pipes should be rinsed thoroughly with water after
each
use to avoid letting resin dry and build up.
Do not use any cleaning agents, detergents or soaps.
Occasionally isopropyl ‘rubbing’ alcohol can be used
clean the
built up residue. Rinse well with water to remove loose debris then add
a small amount of 70% alcohol (do not add salt). Cover all holes and
shake well for a few moments. Use a chop stick to break up the resin
inside the down stem, shake more. Repeat with fresh alcohol if desired.
Rinse thoroughly with water, dry and store as usual.
Avoid using sharp objects in the down stem and damaging
the
wax in the main chamber. A chop stick works well.
The bowl can be rinsed with hot water and inside wiped
with
the corner of a paper towel before storing. It can soak in alcohol or
your favorite borosilicate glass cleaning solution overnight if needed.
Maintenance
Mineral oil can be applied to the outside to help seal
and
protect the wood. Apply generously (avoid wax mouth piece) and let sit
overnight. Wipe excess away with a lint free cloth. The frequency of
application depends on use and handling. Oil makes the bamboo a little
darker with each application and will discolor slightly over time. This
should be done no more than once a month.
